Having a baby has got to be the most amazing thing in the world. And celebrating a birth is a very important step for new parents, welcoming the new addition into their family.
The concept of ?The Baby Shower? has become increasingly popular in recent years. Originally an American tradition, more and more parents to be are organising a family and friends get together before the baby is born, perhaps as much to make the most of life without a baby as to receive useful gifts for them.
I have been asked to create cakes for several baby showers over the last couple of years. Sometimes the sex of the baby is known so the colour and style of the cakes will be chosen accordingly, but other times, (I like this the most), the parents have chosen not to know what ?flavour? baby they are having. So the cakes are usually then a mixture of pastel blue, pink and lemon to cover all bases.
This week, I have created some pretty cake toppers to sit on top of lots of lovely vanilla bean cupcakes for a baby shower this weekend. In baby blue, pale pink and lemon, they will make a lovely centre piece on the table.
Buttons, bows, prams, frilly flowers and alphabet blocks all sit on top of a fondant disc ? all edible of course ? and the disc will then sit on top of a perfect creamy, whipped buttercream swirl. Delicious.
