Microsoft unveils tablet seeking to rival Apple, Amazon

Microsoft Corp. announced its tablet device, called Surface, at a media event in Los Angeles on Monday, the Seattle Business Journal reports. It will compete with Apple Inc.?s?

The new Microsoft Surface tablet will have a built-in keyboard and trackpad as part of its cover and will have Microsoft Office software built in. The tablet will be 10.6 inches wide and 9.3 mm thick, with a full 16:9 high definition display and micro-SD and USB 2.0.

The tablet will come with two versions of the Windows operating system, a 32-gigabyte Windows RT (formerly known as Windows ARM, a form of Windows manufacturers use to build the operating system into their own machines) version and a 64-gigabyte Windows 8 Pro version.

No details on pricing or release date were given.
